Advertising Photography | Black & White Portraits

Hey guys & gals. Travis Duncan here again. Wanted to share a new project that I shot recently for the Boys & Girls Club of America. I gotta say that I'm really proud of it. Every year I collaborate with the B&G's Club to create a series of photographs of our local chefs, winemakers, and brewmasters to help promote their annual fundraising event for the club. This year I opted for a simple black and white headshot, but with a twist. The idea was simple. Clean black background, with a small pencil-line highlight halo, all the way around our subjects. The rest was all about expression and the character. I love the outcome and hope you enjoy taking them in.

Editorial Cover Work

Editorial Work | Garden Center Magazine Cover

Here's a peek at some recent editorial work I took onboard for Garden Center Magazine based out of Valley View Ohio. Just south of Cleveland. Under the amazing and wonderful Stephanie Antal, our art director over at the Garden Center Magazine, I believe we came away with some really nice imagery and a great story on the Longfellow's Garden Center. Alice Longfellow, our subject, and owner of Longfellow's along with her husband Bob could not have been more pleasant to work with. I shot a lot of "shallow depth of field" type images which is very unusual for me, but I'm happy with the result and most importantly the magazine is happy as well.

EDITORIAL ASSIGNMENT | MAGAZINE PHOTOGRAPHY

I do a fair amount of magazine work which I enjoy immensely.  Sometimes when an art director or photo editor calls, they might have very specific direction for me, while other times it's pretty much a wide open canvas. When I go into a situation where I have creative license with respect to making the picture, I will look for scenarios that "tell" as much of the story as possible without having to use words. I very seldom know specifically what the piece is going to say, so as a general rule I will try to imagine the image running with no copy. This helps me a great deal when trying to decide on a location, props, gesture etc ... Below is an example of layering story elements into the frame without being excessively overt. It's an absolute favorite of mine. There are so many layers to this photograph, it just may be my favorite portrait from 2016. -td

OG Anunoby | Indiana Hoosier

MAGAZINE PHOTOGRAPHY | SPORTS PORTRAIT

Editorial portrait photography has got to be one of my favorite disciplines. Especially when I get to work with a top notch talent like  OG Anunoby. I've been fortunate enough to work with OG a few times now, and he's just an amazing guy. If you're not a sports fan I'll give you a quick run-down. OG plays college basketball for the Indiana Hoosiers. He's just a Sophomore this year, but he's already making tremendous strides and contributions for his team in the NCAA. OG is a reported 6'8, 235 pounds with a 7'6 wingspan! To help frame that little nugget of information, Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard and Giannis Antetokounmpo play in the NBA, and are considered extreme outliers for possessing 7'3 wingspans. Whether or not those numbers hold true, OG is indeed a true physical specimen to behold. I'm glad to call OG a friend, and I am beyond excited to see what the future holds for this young superstar.
